New Safety Standards Under Way

New safety rules for the construction and installation of platform lifts are currently under approval. The prEN 81-41, part of the Machinery Directive EEC will cover the size and speed of lifts, as well as communication and safety.

The Machinery Directive provides the regulatory basis for the harmonisation of the essential health and safety requirements for machinery at European Union level. Before installation, platform lifts must fully type tested to ensure that they fulfil the requirements of the directive.
